Day 1: Arrive in Accra

Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport, you’ll proceed through immigration, claim your luggage, clear customs, and meet your expert cultural tour guide. Your guide will transfer you to your hotel in Accra, where you’ll receive a briefing on the exciting activities that await.

Day 2. Tema Fishing Harbour and Accra City Tour

Morning following a leisurely breakfast, visit Tema fishing harbour the centre of the world. Tema Fishing Harbour has a rich history that dates back to the pre-independence era of Ghana. The site was originally a small fishing village called Torman, which was later transformed into a major harbour.

The idea to construct the harbour was proposed by British Colonial Officers in the Gold Coast before Ghana gained independence. After independence, Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, initiated the construction of the harbour in the 1950s, with the guidance of renowned city planner and Ghana’s first architect, Theodore S. Clerk. The harbour was officially commissioned in 1962 and has since become a vital part of Ghana’s maritime trade. Today, Tema Fishing Harbour is a specialist port facility designed to meet the needs of the fishing industry. Tema Fishing Harbour offers a unique glimpse into Ghana’s maritime history and culture. Visitors can explore the harbour, observe the fishing activities, and learn about the significance of the fishing industry in Ghana’s economy.

We later embark on an introductory tour of Accra. Following a leisurely breakfast, you’ll embark on an introductory tour of Accra. Your first stop will be the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, a 5.4-acre facility built in 1992 to honor Ghana’s first president. Kwame Nkrumah Museum, The Kwame Nkrumah Museum is dedicated to the life and legacy of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah. The museum features exhibit on Nkrumah’s life, including his early years, education, and political career.

Next, you’ll visit the Accra Arts & Crafts Centre, where you can shop for unique handicrafts and admire the art galleries.

Visit Independence Square next. It is a historic site that commemorates Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957. The square features the Independence Arch, the Black Star Gate, and the Independence Monument.

Makola Market is one of the busiest and most vibrant markets in Accra, offering a wide range of goods, including traditional clothing, crafts, and food. Visitors can explore the market stalls, sample local cuisine, and interact with vendors.

James Town is a historic neighbourhood in Accra that dates back to the 17th century. Visitors can explore the town’s narrow streets, visit the James Town Lighthouse, and see the historic Ussher Fort.

Your day will conclude with a visit to the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre which is a museum and research centre dedicated to the life and legacy of the African-American scholar and activist W.E.B. Du Bois. The centre features exhibits on Du Bois’ life, including his work on Pan-Africanism and his connections to Ghana.

Day 3. Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle

Morning: Visit Cape Coast Castle, Today, you’ll visit the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The castle is a thought-provoking monument to a harrowing period in the region’s history. You’ll take an emotional journey through the castle, viewing the dungeons and the infamous “Door of No Return

Afternoon: Visit Elmina Castle, Elmina Castle is a historic fortification located in Elmina, Ghana. It’s one of the oldest European buildings in sub-Saharan Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Elmina Castle was constructed in 1482 by the Portuguese as a trading post and fortification. The castle played a significant role in the gold trade between Europe and Africa. Unfortunately, the castle was also used as a slave fort, with thousands of enslaved Africans being held captive and transported to the Americas.

Day 4. Assin Manso and Bisa Abrewa Museum

Morning: Visit Assin Manso Slave River, also known as the “Donkor Nsuo,” is a sacred site where enslaved Africans were bathed and prepared for the transatlantic slave trade.

The site features a memorial to honour the victims of the slave trade and a museum to educate visitors about the history of slavery in Ghana

River and Waterfalls: The River is surrounded by lush vegetation and features small waterfalls, making it a scenic and peaceful spot for reflection

We later visit the Bisa Abrewa Museum which is a cultural and historical museum located in the Central Region of Ghana. it was established in 2004 by the late Nana Akwasi Agyemang, a Ghanaian chief and cultural enthusiast. The museum is situated on a 5-acre land and is dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Bisa Abrewa people.

The museum has a diverse collection of artifacts, including:

  • Traditional clothing and textiles
  • Wood carvings and sculptures
  • Pottery and ceramics
  • Musical instruments
  • Historical documents and photographs

Day 5. Nkrofor, Kwame Nkrumah Homes Town

The village is home to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which commemorates the life and legacy of the former President. Day 6.Takoradi Harbour

Takoradi Harbour is a major harbour located in the Western region of Ghana, specifically in the industrial district of Sekondi-Takoradi. It’s the oldest harbour in Ghana and plays a crucial role in the country’s international trade. The harbour was commissioned in 1928 and is strategically located on latitude 4°532’north, 1°345’west, making it a cost-effective route to and from Europe, America, and Asia. The harbor is primarily an export port, handling around 65% of Ghana’s commodities, including cocoa, manganese, bauxite, and timber. It’s also a key logistics support base for the offshore exploration and production of oil and gas in Ghana and beyond. In recent years, the harbour has undergone significant development, including the construction of a new quay wall, the extension of the breakwater, and dredging works to accommodate larger vessels. These upgrades have positioned the Takoradi Harbour as a major player in West Africa’s maritime trade.

Day 7. Nzulenzu

Nzulezu is a traditional village built on stilts over the lake, with wooden structures and thatched roofs. The village is situated over Lake Tandane, providing a serene and peaceful environment. Visitors can experience the traditional lifestyle of the villagers, including their fishing practices and daily activities.

Day 8. Manshya Palace, Museum, and Okomfo Anokye sword site

Visit Manshya Palace and Museum in the morning. The Palace is the Seat of the Ashanti Kingdom: Manhyia Palace is the official residence of the Ashanti king, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II.The palace has a museum showcasing Ashanti artifacts, including gold jewelry, traditional clothing, and historic photographs.

Afternoon: Visit Okomfo Anokye sword site. Visitors can witness traditional rituals and ceremonies performed by local priests and traditional leaders.

Day 9. Kumasi Craft Villages

Visit three craft villages in the lush countryside surrounding Kumasi. Explore Bonwire, renowned for its traditional Kente Cloth production, Ntonso, famous for its Adinkra Textiles, and Ahwiaa, a hub for skilled woodcarvers.

  • Less than 23 days prior to departure: 25% of the total tour cost
